Pricing and a guide to mending
I'm a textiles and repair artist, (not a tailor or seamstress), and I'm passionate about keeping the clothes we already own in circulation for as long as possible. This page explains what I offer, how I charge, and how to get in touch.

Making or altering curtains and cushions
-
Darning knitwear (visibly)

Minor alterations (Shortening hems, shortening sleeves, adjusting elasticated waists or taking in side seams)
-
Discrete Mends (holes in armpits, crotch seams or anywhere else you don't want a visible mend)
-
Re-working pre-loved clothing to make them more stylish (adding prints/panels/textures)
What I can help with:
-
Fit-based alterations (adjusting shoulders, bust shapes etc)

Tailoring or pattern cutting
-
Alterations on Formalwear
-
High-Tech Outdoor gear repair
I don't offer:
I prioritise creative and visible mending work — that's where my skills shine brightest. Simple hemming and less visible mends are also welcome, though I may limit how many of these I take on.
Pricing
MAIN RATE:
£20 per hour (including consultation time)
Minimum charge: £20
PRICING NOTES:
This minimum charge covers the admin and communication involved in arranging even a small job.
I'll give you a quote when I see the piece in person. If it looks like it'll take more time than initially quoted I'll always check with you before going ahead.
For larger creative commissions, I'm happy to quote by project rather than by the hour — just ask.
Please note: Your fee covers more than just stitching — it includes studio rental, specialist materials, equipment upkeep, continued training, admin, and the years of skill behind the work. Mending is tricky to make financially sustainable- which is why there are so few people offering it, and I genuinely appreciate every commission.
How it works:
Step 1:
Send me a message with photos
Email wellwootextiles@gmail.com or use the contact form below. Include a few clear photos of the item and a brief description of what needs doing — this helps me say yes (or not) quickly and saves us both time.
Step 2:
We arrange a short consultation
If the job looks like a good fit, I’ll get back to you to book in a time for you to bring the piece to the studio. Please keep the consultation concise as I'm often working on other projects in the time around it.
Step 3:
I give you a quote and timescale
Once I've seen the piece, I'll give you an estimated cost and when I can complete it by (if you have specific timescale requests please include those in your initial email). The final price may shift slightly as the work unfolds, but I'll always communicate before going over the agreed figure.
Step 4:
The Mending Begins
I get to work. For creative pieces, this is the best part — I'll bring
care and craft to every stitch.
Step 5:
Collection and Payment
I have a collection box in the main entrance to Totnes Library with a code- I'll let you know when your pieces are ready to collect and send you the code and my bank details and I appreciate a bank transfer on the day you collect. (Please note the library is closed on Thursdays).
