COllaborative Quilting
I run workshops with groups to create collaborative quilts for significant moments. This might be a wedding, a birth, a significant birthday or some other moment that wants to be marked with a gift made by many hands. The beauty of these pieces are that having involvement from a group or community embues the quilt with meaning, and helps to sew together webs of connection and love.
The Practice of quilting has a rich history of solidarity, liberation, community building, radical collaboration and resistance. To create a quilt is to create something of substance- that tells a story and holds memories. It offers comfort, warmth and offers a wonderful 'canvas' for capturing the blessings, wishes and love of a community.
My workshops are structured in a way in which a group can get involved with creating a beautiful printed, collaborative quilt as a gift for a special person, or people with no sewing or printing experience necessary. In fact, these workshops are particularly good for those who say that they aren't any good at art!
"Thank you so much for running this beautiful workshop for us. It was a fabulous session and I LOVE the end result. Especially delighted to discover I can in fact potato print as I don’t have an artistic bone in my body"

Workshop Participant 2023
I have a few different templates for my quilting workshops- my flagship workshop is block printing on to naturally dyed fabric with a group to create a variety of patterned pieces- from which I create a quilt as a gift. Pictured to the left here is a quilt we created as part of a baby shower celebration and then gave to the baby and mumma when baby was born.
Other workshops have included making quilts for newly married couples as part of a 'hen do' and marking a significant birthdays.
Alternatively I offer a quilt creation service- where many people contribute pieces of fabric that have meaning to them and I create a quilt out of those pieces. This is an amazing way to create a collaborative gift that's imbued with love and meaning from a potentially huge number of contributors. The quilt pictured here was created for somebody's 30th birthday and featured special patches from friends and family including special pieces from the recipient's childhood.
Quilts are meant to be embued with love- they're a traditional and yet diverse and eclectic artform and it is a such a pure joy for me to work with a group to create a beautiful and special gift.

Quilts can also be objects of rebellion, of solidarity and can represent peace, connection and community in difficult times. I am working on a workshop model for communities to be able to create an art quilt as an act of creative, connecting and resistance. If you have a group that would like to work with me as I design this model- please get in touch.
